I was writing instructions for how to make a bow with wrapping paper and one of the bows gave me the idea for making this curled paper wreath!

It took some time to curl the pages, but I think it turned out pretty cute. Big shout out to my mom for stopping by and helping! Two sets of hands definitely made this project come together quickly.

I love making crafts with book pages. I’ve also made Book Page Ornaments, Book Page Flowers, and a Book Page wreath.

Supplies and Tools

This wreath only requires a few things and I bet you already have everything you need at home. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A wreath frame – I used an 8″ wire wreath frame that I bought at Dollar Tree. They can also be found on Amazon. The finished wreath size was about 12″ in diameter.
  • 16 – 20 book pages. My book was 9 1/2 x 5 inches. Somewhere around that size should work fine.
  • Clear Tape
  • Hot glue gun (tape may also work)
  • Scissors

Step-by-Step Instructions

Before getting started, inspect the book pages that you tear out. Look at both sides and make sure you select pages that have a lot of print. The end of a chapter may have a mostly blank page. We also found that a chapter cover page would be very dark and we didn’t like those pages in the wreath. Instead of wasting time curling pages you don’t like, inspect them first!

Time needed: 1 hour and 30 minutes

Here are the directions for making the curly paper wreath:

  1. Fold the book pages in half to where the longest side is on the fold.

Once the pages are folded, using my book size as an example, the folded pieces will be 9 1/2 x 2 1/2.folded book page

  2. Cut strips almost to the center.

Cut one book page at a time so they don’t get tangled. Cutting towards the fold, cut 1/4″ strips until you get almost all the way to the fold but don’t cut all the way through. Stop about 1/4″ from the fold. Do this to all of the book pages.a step for making a curled paper wreath

  3. Unfold the page and curl the paper with scissors.

Unfold one of the book pages and use the edge of your scissors to curl the pages. Don’t pull too hard or you’ll rip the paper. Sometimes a piece will rip off anyway, but don’t worry about it. You won’t be able to tell. I’ve ripped several on one page.
Curl all of one side then do the other side. They don’t need to be super curly. Loose is better.a book page curled for a curled paper wreath

  4. Roll the pages.

Lay the page with the curl sides down and carefully roll the page up. As you go, you may need to gently pull out on each side of the curls so they don’t get tangled up in the roll. Secure it at the end with tape.curled book page for a wreath

  5. Cut strips of book pages and wrap the wreath frame.

Cut additional book pages into about 1 1/2-inch strips. Wrap your wreath frame with the paper so your rolled pages have something to stick to. This also creates the perfect color backdrop so if a bit of the wreath frame shows through, you see a matching book page.wrapping a wreath frame with paper to make a paper wreath

  6. Glue or tape the rolled book pages to the wreath.

Glue the rolled pages to the wrapped wreath frame making sure to center them on the frame. Continue until your wreath is complete. I used a hot glue gun, but tape would also work.Curled Paper Wreath
