This rag wreath is so easy to make and the color options are endless. This is a perfect DIY wreath for everyday use and I’ll show you my secret for chaning it up with little to no effort for Christmas, Fall, or any season!

You can use any type of fabric to make a rag wreath. In fact, you can even add in ribbon or yarn to create even more texture as I did in my DIY Rag Garland. I made this rag wreath with a painter’s drop cloth!

Today I’m going to show you the basics of creating a rag wreath and provide some suggestions to whip one up in no time!

I also made another DIY Fabric garland that you may enjoy!

Supplies

  • Fabric (the amount you need depends on the size of the frame. Approximately 2 yards for a 12″ wreath frame)
  • A wire wreath frame
  • Scissors (or a rotary cutter if you want to speed things up)

Instructions

Here are the step-by-step instructions for making a DIY rag wreath:

  1. Cut your fabric into 1″ x 9″ strips. A rotary cutter and mat will speed up the process but you can also use scissors.
  2. Tie the fabric strips around all of the wires of the wreath frame using a simple tie. You don’t need to tie a complete knot.
  3. Hang your wreath and look for places that need to be filled in with additional strips.
  4. Add a ribbon for hanging or just hang the wreath directly on a nail or wreath hanger.

Easy Christmas Rag Wreath

To change up my wreath for Christmas, I cut seasonal fabric colors and tie in small bunches. These are so easy to remove so it makes it super simple to change my neutral wreath for each season.

Changing up a seasonal bow is another option! I did a couple of quick swaps to give you some additional ideas. I couldn’t find the same wreath hanger, but here is a red wreath hanger with bells.

DIY Fall Rag Wreath

For fall I did the same thing by adding in strips of fall colors. You can add just a few or several if you want more pops of color.

I opted to go without a bow for Fall but you can add whatever you like.

Happy crafting,

Denise
