How To Make A Gnome

How to make gnomes using the basic gnome-making techniques:

How To Make A Gnome Body

A gnome body can be made with socks, glass bottles, flower pots, or fabric. I’m sure there are even more ways to make a gnome body, but these are the most popular.

If you choose a sock or fabric, you’ll also need a filler like rice, Polyfil, or poly beads.

How To Make A Gnome Hat

Gnome hats can be made with socks, felt, fabric, flower pots, beenies, or even funnels or other funky objects.

I have an easy felt gnome hat pattern technique that I use when making a lot of my DIY gnomes.

When choosing socks as hats, be sure you select a sock so that the pattern looks the same when it’s upside down. You’ll turn the sock upside down to make that hat, so not all designs are suitable.

Ways To Make A Gnome Nose

Gnome noses can be made with wooden beads, styrofoam balls, fabric, pantyhose and Polyfil, buttons, or any other round object.

Amazon also has gnome beards with a nose already attached!

Beards For DIY Gnomes

The most popular gnome beard is made with faux fur. There are so many beautiful options for faux fur for gnomes including Mongolian fur, and colored faux fur or you can buy pre-dyed beards for something a little different.

Other options include a gnome beard made with yarn, a mop head, rope, or twine. I’ve also seen cute gnomes made with Christmas tree greens as a beard. The possibilities are endless.

Happy crafting,

Denise
